Superman: The Movie (1978) magazine ad, Philip Gips/Gips & Balkind Associates, art director; Steve Frankfurt/Paula Silver, creative directors; Henry Sandbank, photographer.
I'm pretty sure that it was a version of the above magazine ad that appeared as a poster outside my local cinema when I was taken to see a re-release of Superman: The movie as a two to three year old. It's probably the earliest memory I have of a movie poster, or perhaps any graphic work or illustration not aimed specifically at children.
Superman I (the movie) poster by me... age 6
It had such an impact on me that I was was still drawing it three years later, though being illiterate, I was clearly still unsure what the superman insignia was supposed to represent. It just looked like a bunch of abstract yellow shapes on a red background to me.
Clearly though, I wasn't the only one to be influenced by this...
